Necmettin Erbakan Üniversitesi Platform 4.2

The open education platform being developed within Necmettin Erbakan University was named Necmettin Erbakan University Education Platform 4.2 (NEP 4.2). A course taught on NEP 4.2 is a short video-based course that covers more specific topics, unlike traditional in-person and online courses. The lessons can be carried out as guided lessons that allow communication-interaction between the teacher and the learner, or they can be presented in a format that does not require communication with the instructor, in which the learner can progress at his / her own pace. It is planned that the courses that will take place on the platform will be open to Necmettin Erbakan University students and academics in the first place, and then to participants and instructors from outside the university. Thus, it will be possible for students studying in different faculties to access the course-activity contents of other faculties and support their career development processes. NEP 4.2. consists of lectures by volunteer academicians. In this way, supporting the distance education skills of the instructors is also among the objectives. Courses are given online through the learning management system (Necmettin Erbakan University's Moodle).

In general, the features of the courses on our open education platform are as below:

  • Courses consist of an average of 4 to 6 weeks. These periods can be stretched depending on the content.
  • Courses can be designed as weekly, subject-based or module. More precisely, the lessons are divided into weeks, activities and steps. However, the participant who learns these can complete them as quickly or slowly as he wants.
  • There is an average of 2-4 hours of video recordings in a whole lesson. The video sections in the course are of short duration (approximately 6-10 minutes).
  • It should be taken into account that the descriptors describing time, length and quantity given here can be stretched according to the context. (For example: a private lesson can be designed as 10 weeks or 1-2 weeks).
  • At least 60% of the lessons consist of video content, while the remaining part includes discussion forums, reading texts (open course resources, lecture notes), podcasts and other teaching materials.
  • By adding interactions on the video recordings in the lessons, learning analytics related to the learning process are recorded in the system and feedback is given to the learner.
  • Quizzes are usually held at the end of the week (at the end of the topic) to test whether the published content is understood (for assessment purposes). Quizzes are not graded. Each question has an unlimited number of attempts and each time the student is given automatic feedback and hints on the correct answer.
  • At the end of all subjects, a general test (assessment) is made.
  • At the end of these assessment and evaluation activities (if any, other conditions are met), the student is entitled to receive a certificate of completion (digital certificate).
